Caribbean holidays in Tobago

This jewel of an island is the southernmost of the Windward Islands and is 100 miles north of Venezuela. Its beauty is stunning: white sandy beaches, coral reefs, swaying palm trees and turquoise waters. Yet the interior of the island remains a fascinating mixture of plantations, rainforests and spectacular waterfalls. The people are very friendly and they offer the warmest of welcomes to their island, of which they are so proud.

Many Caribbean islands are very commercialised with rows of international hotels and a culture which has been swamped by the demands of mass tourism. Tobago is different: high rise buildings are not allowed and the Tobago Tourist Board works hand in hand with local authorities to ensure Tobago remains an unspoiled natural island.

Famous the world over as the ‘island of spice’, the aroma of nutmeg and cinnamon fills the colourful local markets and a visit to a spice farm or to the local nutmeg station is a must. Visitors will also love a gentle stroll along the harbour into the historical capital of St George’s, which offers the best shopping on the island.

The island is blessed with a beautiful climate and terrific restaurants, as well as endless opportunities to explore the surrounding blue waters on boats and yachts of all sizes.
